Peripheral T-cell lymphoma is a lymphoma with indolent behavior that may be effectively treated with radiotherapy (RT) alone. The addition of cyclophosphamide (C) and prednisone (P) may improve results. In previous studies, the presence of distant metastases (DM) was associated with a poorer outcome. We compared the impact of DM on survival in patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma treated with RT alone or C/P. Patients received RT alone (n = 17) or C/P (n = 22) between 1997 and 2003. The 2 groups were similar in age, sex, performance status, stage, and tumor bulk. The median follow-up was 62 months (range, 19 to 146 mo) for patients treated with RT and 55 mo (range, 18 to 130 mo) for patients treated with C/P. The overall survival (OS) rate was 93% for the C/P group versus 50% for the RT-alone group (P = 0.0003).
